It’s No Ordinary Dryer!

3/10/2008
It’s an incredible sight! Two 113ft long rotary dryers were loaded on a railroad headed out of the QCA bound for destinations in the USA and abroad.

A local company, Quad City Dryer has been manufacturing these multi-million dollar machines, to precise specifications, for nearly 3 years and on approximately October 6th, will see two of their latest rotaries roll out of town on the railroad.

Dave Aldape and Rick Mathias each have approximately 25 years experience in marketing and fabrication of rotary equipment. They started Quad City Dryer with the aim to provide parts for rotaries. They based themselves in a large structural steel fabrication shop in Davenport, Iowa, and were soon being asked by customers to install the parts followed by requests to supply custom rotaries

"The number of companies building this type of equipment has declined in recent years", says VP of Marketing, Dave Aldape. "Quad City Dryer fabricates some of the largest rotaries in the industry. The current rotaries being shipped are 113 feet long and approximately 13 feet in diameter. It has over 230 tubes running the full length of the rotary that will furnish steam heat to dry the specific application. It’s pretty awesome."

As each machine is built to precise requirements it can take 3-4 months to fabricate. Rick Mathias, VP of Engineering for QC Dryer chose to work with the contract design team at Sedona Technologies. "The team at Sedona has been responsible for creating all the drawings for the rotaries and rotary components. Quad-City Dryer has come to rely on the Sedona’s specialized skill to create important drawings." claims Mathias.

The rotary dryers can be designed to dehydrate or cool a variety of products, from sand to food products.

"You would not believe that from a relatively small facility here in Davenport, Iowa, a company is fabricating equipment used by some of the leading global manufacturers of household products," claims Dave Aldape. "It's a pretty exciting place to be".
